Seller Description
This is an original .40 caliber muzzle loader. On close inspection one can see where the dovetails in the barrel where the stock pins once were have been filled, and that is was a full stock and has been cut down to half stock(sometime in the 19th century). The bore is rough with extensive pitting but the riflings are still strong. There is also extensive corrosion around the drum/nipple area. The octagon barrel is 39 inches long. It has a fore end cap that appears to be pewter, a brass trigger guard and brass curved butt plate and toe guard. It has double set triggers, and the lock is held on by one bolt. The stock is dark walnut. As all old muzzle loaders, there is no half cock or "safety" notch in the tumbler. I got this rifle several yrs ago from an old man who bought it as a teenager in 1913, and said it had been cut down to half stock many years before he bought it. I have fired it a few times, but it is primarily a wall hanger or parts gun for the antique restorer. Please e-mail for more pics if needed. There is a stylized signature on top of the barrel that is illegible, but may say "H.T. Anderson". No other signature or maker's mark is present.
