Remington New Model Army Conversion - This is a Factory conversion of a military accepted revolver. The piece still carries all of the inspector marks from when it was manufactured and issued during the civil war. Sometime later, it as returned to the factory for conversion to the 44 caliber central fire ammunition. This was the first attempt by Remington at converting a percussion revolver to central fire.
This conversion requires the removal of the cylinder for reloading. However, this proved very popular because one could carry several loaded cylinders and with the easy removal and replacement of the cylinder with a new loaded one, the shooter could be back in business much quicker then with the normal loading through a loading gate.
For those of you that follow Clint Eastwood movies, you can see just how fast he is able to reload his Remington conversion, while facing down his opponent, while walking causally down the street. in the movie PALE RIDER!
