Remington .270 model 78 Sportsman 700 Long Action 1984 First Year Production ADL type VG 270 Winchester Caliber Redfield Scope Base

Amidst our profound bereavement over Remington’s discontinuance of our much loved model 788 in 1983, Remington produced a hardwood stocked model 700 the following year, and named it the 78 Sportsman. The series continued only until 1988. From this specimen’s R E barrel code, it was manufactured in November of 1984. We planted it the following year to its exclusive family of ownership from the Missouri Bootheel, just across the river from us. Manufacturer, of course, was Remington Arms of Ilion, NY. Construction is entirely steel metal parts, identical to the 700 ADL Long Action. Stock is semi-gloss factory finished Hardwood, with factory blue steel, white lined swivel studs. Stock has a pressure point 2 inches back of the forend tip, and a right hand 3/4 inch cant. Length of pull is 13 1/4 inches from the serrated face .340 wide steel trigger to the end of the polymer factory butt plate. Trigger guard is anodized alloy, not polymer. Chambering is .270 Winchester Caliber with ADL type internal magazine, capacity 4 + 1 rounds. Barrel is 22 inch, six groove, 1:10 right hand twist. Barrel is drilled and tapped for sights, but those have not survived. Instead, the receiver bears a one piece Redfield 700LA JR scope base. It housed a 2.5x10 50mm Filipino Simmons that we have for sale elsewhere. Weight empty is with center of gravity Surface detractions are only moderate on this 78, principally moderate scouring on the sides of the Buttstock, and with faint amounts of whitening on the muzzle. We rate this 78 Sportsman as Very Good, 80 to 85 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. From our knowledge of this rifle’s exclusive owners, it has been fired fewer than 200 times, and all with factory 130 grain ammunition. Trigger has been professionally adjusted to a crisp, light 2 pound pull.
