Mossberg’s original 800 series rifles earned our respect in the 1970s. After a 40 year absence, Mossberg reentered the High Powered Rifle market with their ATR 100 series. This is what we call a Texas Mossberg. Manufacturer is O.F. Mossberg of New Haven, CT, with facilities in Eagle Pass, TX. Type is bolt action high powered rifle. Barrel is 22 inch matte blue finish, with 6 groove 1:10 button rifling and counterbore recessed muzzle. Receiver is matching short action, furnished with Weaver 51S and #36 Scope Mount Bases that measure only 3 1/2 inches between their closest slot centers. Scope is a 3x9 40mm Wide Angle, matte finish to match the rifle, duplex crosshair and with 1/4 minute click adjustments for windage and elevation. Bolt is white steel body, with matte blue face assembly, handle, and cowl. Safety is forward type, very quiet, and mounted on the right side behind the bolt handle. Trigger is .240 smooth face gunsmith adjustable, factory set on 5 pound vicinity and with minimal felt creep. Stock is strong but pliable graphite based black synthetic with checkered surfaces on the forend and pistol grip areas; integral sling swivel eyelets and with Monte Carlo cheek piece. One piece stocks like this one with no magazine cut are considerably stronger than BDL type stocks. Magazine is internal, and holds 4 rounds of .243 Winchester caliber ammunition, 4+1 total capacity. Length of pull is 13 1/4 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 3/4 inch decelerator type factory recoil pad. Weight empty is 8 pounds 4 ounces with the scope, or 6 pounds 14 ounces with the scope removed, with center of gravity at the breech face. This specimen is what we call a factory demo. It served as showgirl for Mossberg’s sales force, on the road with their reps and at gun industry trade shows like the annual SHOT show in Las Vegas. Surface detractions are minimal, really no more streaking and faint edge whitening than what one sees on new display guns in stores. This rifle comes in a Mossberg factory box with lock and instruction manual that contains Mossberg’s warranty statement. If it has been fired at all, it was fewer than 20 times. We rate it as Excellent, 90 to 95 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
