Seller Description
Antique High Wall in 38-55 Caliber, Serial # 39xx ( 1886 Vintage ). 30 Inch #3 Full Octagon Barrel with great bore. The edges of the flats on the barrel are worn shiny, otherwise with the exception of a few nicks, the barrel is 75 to 80% blue. Receiver is Case Colored retaining 40-50% Original Colors. Buttstock has scratches and dings typical of a 130 year old rifle but is in overall good shape (see photos). Crescent Butt shows little color case hardening and is starting to patina. Forend color matches buttstock with hardly any scratches and some wood figure showing in the stock. It has the traditional Schnabel end tip with a black ebony inlay. Action is tight with a Single Set Trigger. The rifle has buckhorn rear sight with a brass front sight. Barrel is Vintage and has not been bored out. It is marked 38/55 on the top rib. I have tried to describe this rifle to the best of my ability, but I am a shooter and not a Winchester collector. This is an accurate rifle and I have only used it with lead bullets and black powder. It has come to my attention through an interested buyer that the barrel on the Winchester is not the original barrel. He said he checked the serial number through Cody museum and the rifle was originally shipped with a 32-40 half round barrel. The 38-55 barrel currently on the rifle is a vintage barrel with an excellent bore and a plum colored patina. Please call if you have questions or would like more pictures. Buyer has 3 days upon receipt to return the rifle and is responsible for paying return shipping.
