Seller Description
PRICE REDUCED !!!
The Winchester Model 1901 was produced in 10 gauge only, by strengthening its predecessor's action (the Model 1887), to accept smokeless powder, 10 gauge 2 7/8" shells. It is a very RARE shotgun as only 13,500 were made between 1901 and 1920. Serial numbers started where the Model 1887 left off - at number 64856, and this gun is numbered 73816.
The gun is 100% original, and is in about 70% overall condition. The original bluing has been worn by carrying; and the bore is very lightly pitted for the first 8" of the barrel (from the chamber), then it becomes bright and shinning. There are no cracks or splits in the walnut stocks, no extra holes drilled, and the exterior bluing is about 60%, but is slowly turning to patina. It has a 32" full choke barrel, and functions flawlessly..
I purchased this shotgun 43 years ago from a gentleman who lived in Port Jervis,NY; and I killed my first two wild turkeys with it - then ran out of 2 7/8" ammunition for it. It has been hanging over a door in my hunting camp ever since!
