Seller Description
This fine ANTIQUE Winchester rifle, made in 1880, Serial # 421XX , is a rare 2nd model and also one of the 16 % of 1873 rifles made with a Round barrel. For a rifle that is 136 years old, it is in remarkably fine condition: 90% blue on barrel, 99% blue on mag tube, 80% blue on right side receiver, 95% blue on left side of receiver, lower and upper tangs and top and bottom of receiver have close to 100% blue. The blue is a;ll factory original. The stock has never been touched and is extra quality figured walnut with 99% of its original special order Varnish finish . (std finish was oiled).. The fore arm varnish is thinner from carrying. Under the rear barrel sight there is a 5/8" x 2.25" spot where the blue is missing. (I do not know why that is, but suspect it has something to do with an alternate sight, maybe a wind gauge sight). The dust cover has no blue, may be a replacement. The picture shows the sideplate is darker, but it is actually the same nice blue as the rest of the receiver. The bore is shiny, sharp and accurate. Besides being a collectable, this gun is a fine shooter, should you get the urge to see what kind of work that "The Gun That Won The West" can do.
