From Russian ordnance houses where it has been refurbished and carefully stored now for 65 years comes this German Military 98 Mauser in 8x57 Mauser caliber in its original Laminated Military Stock, just like it was issued by the Oberndorf armory to the German Army in 1944. Waffenamt and proof marks are intact, but there has been some remarking at two places on the bolt surface and also on the floorplate and trigger guard. Bolt as well was scribed with the matching receiver number by the Victorious Russian Armorers, and the bluing has been arsenal refinished. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are Very Good to excellent. We detect no visible pitting in the bore; just roughness in the grooves at places. Scouring to the stock finish is only moderate. We rate this rifle as Very Good, since we estimate that 85 to 90 percent of its WWII Arsenal refinish is intact; photos, however, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves.
