Seller Description
Winchester Model 1894 Carbine lever-action rifle in .32 Winchester Special. Cody Museum letter say the DOM is 1904. It says the Type is Carbine. No sling ring describes the lack of saddle-ring and post. It also says Screw Eyes, which explains the eye in the butt, but it looks like the eye in the barrel band has been removed. There is nothing in the letter describing the sights which look to be a 3-leaf barrel mounted rear sight and there still remains the base of a flip-up tang sight. The tang sight was mounted using the original factory holes, as show in the pics.
One could surmise that this gun was ordered to be an "Eastern" carbine before Winchester official built them as such in the 20's. The sling studs and lack of saddle-ring might lead one to believe it was built as a backwoods hunting rifle! The wood still looks awesome and likely was refinished at some point. The natural striping is wonderful. There's scattered nicks and dings but no cracks and little age-shrink. See pics for details. Receiver and barrel blue show some wear with some light plummed blue remaining. Bore is shiny with light frosting and good rifling. Action is tight and crisp. This is an interesting piece and will be a fun piece of a collection or restoration candidate.
