The similarity between this South African Vektor 9mm Pistol and the Beretta M9 / M92 is visible at the back of the trigger guard, around the trigger. Magazine release appears identical to the Beretta, and Ambidextrous as well. Photo shows this SP-1 Vektor with a Beretta 92 Magazine, and we are pleased to report it fires fine, free-fall ejects, and locks the slide open on the last shot just like it’s supposed to. This very distinctive looking pSouth African pistol has a 5 inch Government size barrel with Polygonal rifling. Construction is all steel, unlike the Beretta; and this pistol weights 35.2 ounces empty, about the same as a Combat Commander. Safety is ambidextrous frame mounted; we like the capability for cocked-and-locked carry, single action first shot, but the only way, like many of the Taurus 92s, to safety decock is to eject the magazine and the round from the chamber. Double action first shot carry comes with half cock for the serrated spur hammer and safety engaged. Capacity, of course, is 15 + 1 on the magazine included, but Beretta 92 magazines can be had in most any capacity from 10 to 20 rounds. Surface detractions are only moderate, edge whitening with some holster scouring on the left side of the frame and pronounced scouring to the top of the rear sight. Overall length is 7 15/16 inches from muzzle to grip frame strut; height is 5 1/2 inches from the magazine buttplate to the top of the rear sight; slide thickness is 1.18 inch; and frame thickness measures .734. This pistol is very well balanced with its center of gravity directly beneath the trigger. We rate it as Very Good finishwise, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
