Seller Description
Steyr Mannlicher-Schoenauer Model 1952 Premiere Grade .270 Winchester with custom relief engraved stock. What you are looking here is probably the only configuration in the world of this unique firearm. This is a Mannlicher-Schoenauer Model 1952 Premiere Grade hand-engraved bolt-action with the addition of a Guns-of-Distinction by Anthony Guymon fully relief engraved stock (circa 1950's-1960's). This firearm also features a vintage Griffin & Howe Inc. 1" scope mount.
"This is the piece for the connoisseur of fine guns, combining as it does supreme quality and supreme beauty. The stock has been carefully chosen for perfect coloring and figurative grain. The engraving is completely individual, being the product of highly skilled professional gun engravers who have devoted their lives to this specialized art of firearms decorating. This engraving is of the deep-relief type and represents only the finest hand-craftsmanship. No two guns are identically engraved, but all have hunting scenes."
- The Shooters Bible, 48th Edition 1957
"The World's Finest Rifle" was introduced in 1903 and manufactured without fundamental change until 1971. The action was designed by Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher and the famous spool magazine by Otto Schönauer.
In the U.S., Stoeger Arms Corporation was the official Mannlicher-Schoenauer importer and Steyr worked closely with Stoeger to produce rifles suitable for the American market. Our Carbine is marked, reading from front to back, "Made in Austria / Original / Mannlicher / Schoenauer / Mod. 1952 / Kal. .270" in six lines on the top of the front receiver ring. The right side of the front receiver ring is stamped with the serial number, as are the right rear side of the barrel and the underside of the bolt handle. The left front of the receiver and left rear side of the barrel show proof marks and the opposite side is stamped with the serial number.
