Springfield M1812 Type II flintlock musket

Springfield M1812 Type II flintlock musket. Dated 1816 on lock and buttplate tang. Unusual design with barrel band retaining studs, rather than springs, the only US model to use this system. 42" barrel. Metal parts have an untouched patina overall with minimal scattered pitting. Stock is very good with visible cartouche opposite lock, has a small piece missing to left of barrel tang, and left side of buttstock comb scooped out during the period, supposedly to aid in shooting while wearing the heavy greatcoats of the day. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
