Springfield Trapdoor Saddle Ring Carbine

Nice example of a post Civil war/Indian war Carbine. The rifle has a faint outline of the cartouche, breech block ‘door’ is stamped “U.S. Model 1873”. The barrel band has the “U” stamp and is put on correctly. The 22” barrel has the “V”, “P”, Eagles Head & “P” stamped on the barrel. Under the stock is the Springfield “P” cartouche & just behind the trigger assembly plate is stamped “65”. On the right side of Lock Plate is the “Eagle” and “U.S. Springfield” stampings. Under the forearm someone carved “A” dot “M”. Top of butt plate is stamped “U.S.”. The barrel has some pitting & the wood shows scars and dings of a 130+ year old carbine, but is solid. According to ***************************************************************** the gun is an 1882. I have yet to shoot this one. If I lived in a state where I could use it for hunting, I would.
