Here is a barrel that Smith & Wesson removed from one of our Ohio Department of Corrections model 64-8 revolvers. It was not warranty work, of course, but our friends at 2100 Roosevelt avenue were reasonable, and we only had one such barrel out of 200 revolvers. What we mean by squib is, that one round during training firing sessions for the OH DC officer was a dud, the bullet did not exit the barrel, and then the officer fired another round right behind it, creating a swell, or a squib. The fact that the squib is not pronounced, and was hard for us to even catch, attests to the strength of the new Smith & Wesson two piece barrel system, where an internal barrel like this is fitted into an outer shroud on current production models 64 and 67 with 4 inch barrels. The swell is visible about halfway down, but not conspicuous. This would probably make a good shotshell barrel, and we expect plenty of moccasins and copperheads this spring here in Tennessippi after our very mild winter.
