STEYR CHILEAN 1912 MAUSER – 7.62 NATO

STEYR CHILEAN 1912 MAUSER – 7.62 NATO. Chile purchased Model 1912 rifles, based on the very popular Gew 98 rifle, from Austria just prior to the start of WWI as part of a military modernization program. These rifles have pistol grips, tangent leaf rear sights, and a parade hook, among other typical Model 1912 features. Many of these were later fitted with short barrels and converted to 7.62 NATO. These were marked with a “61” after the Modelo 1912 receiver ring marking, as this one is. So, a bit of an unusual Mauser. This specimen is well-used, but in very serviceable condition. Still has storage grease in the action, and needs to be cleaned. It has a straight bolt, and original wood with an original cartouche on the stock. With a solid Mauser action, it is an excellent candidate for rebuilding into a hunting rifle, or use as-is for recreational shooting.
