Smith Corona was originally an American company recognized for manufacturing typewriters and industrial equipment before expanding into wartime production. During World War II, the company was contracted to produce bolt-action rifles for the U.S. military, demonstrating its ability to deliver precision-machined firearms under strict government standards. Although its involvement in firearms was limited to a specific period, Smith Corona earned a strong reputation for quality and reliability. Today, its firearms are appreciated for their historical significance and solid construction.

Seller Description
Up for auction is an SC 1903a3 action that was reactivated by Gibbs. I purchased this SC action from Aim Surplus which are reconditioned actions from Gibbs. This receiver looks like it was never deactivated by looking at the magazine switch & receiver tenon. The receiver I had drilled/tapped and the bolt handle welded by my local gun smith. Bolt has a low profile safety and some areas of the bolt is polished for a smooth function. This action has excellent control round feed. Just as good as my Win M70 in 3006. All parts on this action are original military issued (except trigger & safety) including the mag/trigger housing w/spring & follower. The trigger is a Timney and is set to break @ 1.5 lbs.
Barrel is a new Criterion 24" 1:10 twist barrel w/125 rounds down the barrel. I purchased this barrel from CMP. Headspacing is set for a tight tolerance w/SAAMI spec. If you handload then you know w/a tighter chamber you will get less stress on a fired case which in return give you longer case life & improves accuracy.
Stock is an CMP converted to a sporter but still has original military issued but plate for storing cleaning kit.
There is an adjustable cheek rest (w/two insert setting) on the stock.
Rear tang of stock has the trigger guard bushing glassed in and also the recoil lug has been glassed for a nice tight fit. Barrel channel has been cut to free float the barrel. Stock also has quick attach sling studs installed. Stock has been channeled to fit the Timney trigger.
Scope mounts is Redfield w/all Leupold USA is also a new set of extra low Leupold ring.
New Redfield Revenge scope 3-9x42 w/4-plex reticle. Scope comes w/box & manual.
This set-up will place a three to five shots groups @ 100 yards measuring from .5" to 1.5"
