Seller Description
Italian pocket flintlock pistol by S. Manenti, c.1760 (Gardone)? 9" long, .46 cal. All steel mounts, in good, untouched condition. Barrel has makers mark of standing horse surrounded by six crowns. Wire inlay in the stock and a (unmarked) pretty rococo escutcheon. Missing a small portion of right front forestock (visible in image), also has a crack under stock just before the lock (probably caused by an over-tight screw on the front of the lock?) , which does not go all through the stock. Action very crisp - given the good reputation of Brescian barrel-makers this one may still fire well? - though I can't recommend it! Gaibi shows an F. Manenti in Gardone, and there were several earlier Manenti's in Brescia, so probably one of a long gunmaking family. Please email for more detailed photos of barrel mark, crack, etc
