Remington .22 LR 510 Targetmaster G-VG 1946

This good little Remington Targetmaster Single Shot, numbered model 510, was manufactured in October of 1946 according to its E RR date code. It is probably one of the last straight 510 variants, Remington began letter suffixes to the variants well before the model was discontinued in 1962. This one is a veteran of the Hatchie River Bottomlands here in West Tennessee, and it has served to dispatch a good number of that menace of farmers, the Castor Canadensis, the plain old North American Beaver. The owner was a voracious trapper. Barrel is 24 inches, stock is American Walnut with original buttplate and 13 1/2 inch length of pull. Barrel and metal surfaces, as the photos show, is mostly gun metal gray with about 30 percent brown etchy residue. Actual surface pitting is minimal, perhaps 20 percent of the barrel surface. Note that the bolt handle has more bluing remaining, perhaps 70 percent; that indicates that this rifle has been carried more than it has been fired. Most of the casehardening is still visible on the back or the bolt. We detect one hairline crack under the forends forward edge, and two more moderately deep scratches. Scouring on the buttstock is extensive, but there is still a fair amount of original glossy finish intact. We rate it as Good finishwise, but photos should suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent.
