Seller Description
During the revolver heydays of the 70’s and 80’s, there was a popular cottage industry that mated the highly accurate Colt Python barrels to the stronger Ruger Security Six or Smith & Wesson frames, with the resulting creations being referred to as “Cougar” or “Smolt” revolvers. In California, the best shop for turning these guns out was run by Bill Davis, who made extremely high end competition revolvers for Bianchi Cup and PPC shooting. This is one of his guns. These revolvers rarely go up for sale. This example is a Cougar, the Colt Python, 5 3/4" barrel in nickel plate, mated to the Ruger Security Six frame. This is one of the best balanced and most accurate .357 magnums created. One shooter commented “I had Bill Davis build me two of his outstanding revolvers. One was a Ruger Security Six tricked out by him and the other was a SW model 27 I gave him to perform his magic. Both would shoot one ragged hole at 25yds and at 50yds shot under an inch for five shots. Those guns were unbelievably accurate and had the best triggers on them you could ever imagine.” If you want a truly unique piece of history, this is the gun to add to your collection. Serious inquires only. Great condition other than a small chip in the nickel at the end of the barrel.
