Seller Description
EXTREMELY COLLECTABLE REMINGTON 'KEENE' PRICE JUST REDUCED TO SELL!!
The Keene bolt action system was Remington's first attempt at producing a repeating rifle to compete with the lever action Winchesters. These were produced from 1880-1884 with a total production of approximately 5,000. This model was the first magazine fed rifle produced by Remington. It has a loading gate on the bottom of the rifle in front of the trigger guard. The top of the bolt is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y. / PATENT FEBY. 24. MCH 17. 1874 JAN. 18/SEP. 26. 1876 MCH 20 JULY 31 1877." There is a caliber designation stamped on the left hand side near the hammer of 45-70 . . The rear sight is a standard Remington folding single leaf sight with the left arm graduated 1,2,3 for use with the horizontal notch and 4-10 on the right arm for use with the slide when the leaf is in the vertical position, and a carbine style buttplate with cleaning rod compartment with three-piece cleaning rod.
The condition of the gun is very good. Most of the blue is gone. There are some slight blemishes on the wood stock but still retains its luster.
