Here is Remington’s standard tactical or home defense barrel to fit any 12 gauge 870 Shotgun. Manufacturer is Remington Arms of Ilion, New York. Factory number is 24620. Construction is entirely matte blued steel. Chambering is 12 gauge, 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch shells interchangeably. Not all 870s will eject 3 inch shells, of course. Barrel is 18 1/2 inches from chamber mouth to muzzle; forward lug face will sit 11 1/8 inches forward of the shotgun’s receiver, and fit on a standard 12 inch magazine tube, which excludes the briefly produced 870 Special Field. Sight is steel base matte stainless bead type. Muzzle is .721 Police Cylinder Bore, with an external diameter of .882, so plenty of wall thickness. Finish is Express matte blue. We have added a Masen Co. black polymer heat shield. This barrel will fit any Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun EXCEPT the 870 Special Field, manufactured from 1984 until 1990, and whose magazine tube measured 9 inches. It will fit, and allow ejection of 2 3/4 inch spent hulls from any other Remington 870, 12 gauge shotgun with a 12 inch magazine tube manufactured since production began in 1951. It will eject 3 inch hulls only from 870 shotguns with the word Magnum written on their side, or from the Sportsman 12 pumps manufactured from 1984 until 1986.
