Lee Enfield .303 British Long Branch 1943 No 4 Mk I* Correctly Refurbished to 4T Sniper type with ca. 1950 KV Weaver 2.5 x 5 Repark Steel Mounts

From a collection in the Alaska panhandle comes this well executed Canadian Long Branch 1943 rifle that has been restored early on to sniper type. We do Not advertise or purport this to be an original production No 4 T Sniper Rifle, but it is correct in many respects. Original manufacturer was Long Branch Arsenal in Toronto. Production stamping first line is No. 4 Mk I* with dimly stamped 3 (then 1 or 2 illegible spaces) FTP to the right. Second line, Long Branch, third line, 1943. Serial number 40L9XXX is correct for 1943. Right side receiver ring bears a correct London Proof and the word England beside it, so we assume this rifle was issued to the British Army at some point. Note the two plugged drill points on the ring’s top center. Photos include closeups of the muzzle area, front sight, nose cap, lower band, magazine well and guard assembly, bolt handle and cocker, receiver laterals, Magazine, and stock wrist cartouches. It is NOWHERE Import stamped. Chambering is the original 7.7 x 56mm, or .303 British caliber. Construction is steel metal with replacement walnut stock. Barrel is original 25 inch, 1:10 Left hand 6 groove rifling. Sights are correct, hood protected, ramp and dovetailed blade front, sight; with single aperture folding rear that had its second peep milled off to accommodate the scope. Scope is a Post Crosshair, original Weaver KV 2 3/4 x 5 power, earliest production was 1950. Mounts are correct but unmarked military steel, with bright blue anchor bases attached to the receiver’s left side. Lenses are clean, no abrasions, and the adjustments appear operable. View is clear enough, not cloudy, but we assume the nitrogen to be long gone. Sling is military style, but OD green nylon body replacement. Note that the forward guard bolt has been pinged into place. Finish is correct military type, we assume to be a 1960s refinish, principally parkerized steel with oil finish stock. Surface detractions are minimal to moderate, principally some sling loop scouring on the under side of the stock, but only faint edge wear elsewhere. We rate this rifle as Very Good, perhaps even Excellent, refinish, 85 to 90 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean, rifling is excellent throughout.
