Seller Description
This listing is for the exact rifle in the photos. Here is a rifle that switched sides in World War II. Yugoslav partisans captured the retreating Nazi Army’s 98K rifles. In 1946, Zastava Arms plant set up shop in Kragujevac refurbishing and reissuing said rifles for the Yugoslavian Army. Barrel is importer stamped on its right side. Most of the German markings were obliterated, with Preduzece 44 stamped on the left side receiver. Mod. 98 on receiver’s left side, Waffenamt on the bayonet stud cap, and likely internal markings are German, the balance are Zastava, Yugoslav, including the serial numbers. Receiver and bolt are matching numbers; but the bolt release, lower band, and floor plate are mismatched. It is nowhere stamped 98/44. Manufacturer was Nazi Germany’s Military Complex, principally Mauser-Werke. Type is 98K Bolt Action Mauser Rifle. Chambering is 7.92 x 57, 8mm Mauser caliber. Construction is entirely steel metal, with original issue laminated stock and barrel guard, no cartouches visible. Barrel is 24 inch, 4 groove 1:9 right hand. Sights are welded band front with steel blade insert, and calibrated 2000 meter military rear. 12 inch x .200 rod is Not included. Magazine is internal box 5 round with removable, not detachable, floor plate. Safety is 3 position cowl mounted. Trigger is .262 smooth face, pulls two stage at 6 pound vicinity with minimal felt creep. Buttstock length of pull is 13 3/8 inches, with a 3/4 inch right hand cast. Weight empty is 8 pounds 10 ounces with center of gravity at the breech face; with 43 5/8 overall length. Finish is arsenal reblue, with clear lettering. Surface detractions are moderate, principally stock scouring and even wear and toning to the metal finish. We rate this rifle as Good condition, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore has strong rifling lands, with moderately etchy grooves. Chamber and mechanism are otherwise bright and clear. We have not completely disassembled for full degreasing. Inside receiver and cartridge follower show very little use. From its condition, we estimate this rifle was fired fewer than 500 times. Replacement pricing on German Mausers often approaches the $1,000 mark. We’re offering the 98 / 44 in the photos, however, for only $ 329.00. Definitely C&R Eligible. Deduct 2% if payment is with USPS Money order & not credit card.
