Mauser 98 custom light weight sporter in .280 Remington, exceptional workmanship

Stunning light weight sporting rifle stocked in dark, heavily cross-grained exhibition walnut. The stock execution, checkering and finish is exceptional, but the metalwork is simply outstanding. A 23.5-inch tapered octagon-to-round barrel has a full-length integral machined and matted rib ending in a raised front sight ramp. The barrel-mounted swivel stud is seamlessly soldered. The single leaf rear folding sight is dovetailed into the rib. Accents include a checkered steel pistol grip cap, checkered steel buttplate with widow's peak, engraved screw heads, double triggers, 2-position wing safety on custom cocking piece and sleek bottom metal with levered floorplate release. The rifle's markings indicate "Made in Austria" yet execution is American classic, with European heritage slightly evidenced by the petite Schnabel forend. The stock has a 13.75 length-of pull to the front trigger, beaded pancake cheekpiece and wrap-around point-pattern checkering. A straight bolt knob is properly configured to clear a scope.
