It is Mossberg’s MVP chambered in .223 that accepts AR15 / M16 / M4 Magazines. This is the 27700, Varmint Edition. Manufacturer and warrantor is O.F. Mossberg & Sons of New Haven, CT, and Eagle Pass, TX. Type is detachable magazine bolt action high powered rifle, with a 75 degree throw. Construction is steel barrel assembly, bolt assembly, receiver, trigger, and internal parts with alloy scope mount and magazine well assembly; and with polymer trigger guard. Chambering is .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO interchangeably. Magazine is 10 shot factory Mossberg MMR, but this rifle will accept any AR15 Magazine like the Colt SP62328 thirty rounder in the photos. Magazine release lever mechanism is all steel, accessible in front of the mag. MVP magazine insertion and ejection is not smooth; sometimes you need to slap the baby’s butt. Barrel is 24 inch heavy fluted, 1:9 right hand six groove right hand button rifling; completely free floating all the way from the concave crown muzzle to the Savage type barrel collar. Safety is very quiet, mounted on the right side behind the bolt handle. Stock is Bench Rest type gray laminate, with machine stippled inlay panels on the beavertail forend and pistol grip areas. It is only 1.25 thick on its body, with right hand palmswell. Sling swivels are blue steel QD type. Length of pull is 13 inches from the LBA trigger face to the end of the 1/2 inch recoil pad. Weight empty is 7 pounds 12 ounces, with center of gravity at the barrel collar. This MVP and its mates served light duty as showgirls for Mossberg’s sales team or with their publicity writers. It has the letter U stamped near its serial number. Surface detractions are minimal, principally faint contact marking on the stock and barrel.
