This listing is for the exact rifle in the photos. This is Mossberg’s 464 SPX Tactical Lever Action with collapsible stock and threaded barrel. Type is lever action repeating carbine. Manufacturer and warrantor is O.F. Mossberg & Sons of New Haven, CT, and Eagle Pass, TX. We believe its production utilized Winchester Machinery; Winchester closed in 2007, and the 464 appeared in 2008, only 9 miles from the Winchester plant. Construction is steel barrel, magazine tube, bolt, hammer, trigger, and internal parts, with alloy receiver and rear sight; and with polymer cartridge follower and tang safety button. Forend and buttstock are black synthetic. Forend bears three Picatinny 3 slot rails, laterally and underneath. Barrel is 16.3 inches with six groove 1:10 right hand rifling; chambering is .30-30 Winchester caliber. A2 Cage type muzzle brake is threaded with a crush washer. Tubular magazine holds five rounds, so 5+1 capacity. Front sight is dovetailed steel blade, with high visibility red fiber optic insert tube. Rear sight is Williams alloy windage and elevation adjustable with green fiber optic tube and two green, one picture. Action includes the traditional lever safety, where the hammer will not fall without the lever being firmly gripped; it also includes a tang safety that prevents the hammer from contacting the firing pin while it is engaged. Receiver has a steel connector section that is drilled for a Weaver 403 scope mount base, front and rear, or similar rail. Hammer is drilled for a screw in spur, not included. Trigger is two stage .270 smooth face steel, and pulls in a crisp 5 pound vicinity with negligible felt creep. Buttstock is factory issue ATI M4 type six position with polymer main tube. Its length of pull ranges from 11 1/8 to 14 3/4 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 1 inch rubber recoil pad. Buttstock has no cant, so this rifle is quite southpaw friendly. Weight empty is 5 pounds 9 ounces, with center of gravity 1 inch behind the breech face. This specimen comes to us from Mossberg’s distribution system. It served light duty, likely with Mossberg’s reps and writers. We call it a factory demo. It has the letter U stamped near its serial number. Surface detractions are minimal, really no more operation streaking and faint edge whitening than what one sees on many new display guns in stores. It comes in a relabeled factory box with lock and instruction manual that contains Mossberg’s warranty statement. If it was fired at all, we estimate it was fewer than 20 times. Loading gate does not show any wear. No more than 1 in 5 of its mates left any green copper on our cleaning patches.
