Here is Mossberg’s good little .22 Bolt Action, the 802 Plinkster, with Thumb hold pistol grip stock that incorporates a Picatinny Rail. Manufacturer and warrantor is CBC of Ribeirão Pires, Brazil, the company that brought us the fine little Nylon 66 copies in the 1980s. Importer and Warrantor is Mossberg International of New Haven, CT, and Eagle Pass, TX. Type is clip fed bolt action Rimfire rifle. Barrel is one piece steel 18 inch with six groove 1:16 right hand rifling. Sights are screw on hooded ramp type front with beaded blade insert; and Nylon 66 type Windage and Elevation adjustable folding buckhorn type rear. Receiver is grooved for 3/8 base rings, and will accept 1 inch or 30mm rings with that type base. Magazine is factory number 95803 steel bodied, and holds 10 rounds of .22 Long Rifle High Velocity Ammunition. The 802 will accept a 702/715 magazine, but their operator will have to work around the hold-open cartridge follower that the semi autos use. Trigger is .230 smooth faced steel, pulls at 5 pound vicinity two stage, with minimal felt creep and moderate to extensive overtravel. Stock is smooth satin finish Brazilian Hardwood, 1 1/2 inch drop at the comb and 2 1/4 inches at the heel with a 3/4 inch right hand cant. Length of pull is 14 1/2 inches from the trigger face to the end of the buttplate. Weight empty is only 4 pounds 3 ounces, with the center of gravity under the front of the receiver. Overall length is 36 1/2 inches. Metal finish is blue steel barrel, white steel bolt, and black anodized alloy receiver. This rifle and its mates are what we call factory demos. They came to us from Mossberg’s distribution system, and likely served as showgirls with Mossberg’s sales force at trade shows and on the road, signified by the factory’s U mark on the receiver. Surface detractions are minimal, as the photos show, only faint occasional edge whitening and stock streaking.
