THIS Merkel 147EL has incredible “exhibition grade” French walnut and features Vintager Cup Special relief hand-engraving by one of Merkel’s several master engravers. The barrels and break lever are blue and the action is coin finished. The scalloped action, trigger guard, tang, break lever and forearm latch feature beautiful relief floral rose and motif engraving. There are triangles of the same engraving pattern on the breeches of the barrels. On the bottom of the receiver, in the center of the engraving is the Merkel stylized logo and the word “SUHL.” On the right side are two Auerhans, one in flight and one standing, looking back at the other, surrounded by a scenic background. On the left side of the receiver are three ducks in flight, again, set in scenic background. The left barrel is marked "GSI Inc. Tville AL / GEBR. MERKEL SUHL / MADE IN GERMANY" and the right side is marked "147 EL 12 GAUGE” and “Krupp Stahl.” The top of the break lever is marked “EL” in gold. A single brass bead front sight sits on the matted concave solid rib. Barrels: Special cold hammer-forged steel, demibloc construction, solid coved matted sighting rib; 28” 12 gauge, Modified and Improved Cylinder, rust blued, gold bead. Stock: Highly-figured “exhibition grade” French walnut, straight-hand English grip with long inlaid lower tang, 14 1/2” LOP, English splinter forearm, engraved Anson & Deeley release, and maker’s proprietary buttplate.
