Seller Description
From its exclusive local West Tennessee owner comes this powerful and portable Marlin 1895 Guide Gun chambered in .45-70 Government Caliber. Manufacturer was The Marlin Firearms Co. North Haven, CT. U.S.A., and so marked. From its 02081xxx serial number, it was manufactured in the first year of production, 1998. Type is lever action repeating rifle. Construction is steel metal and American Walnut. Chambering is .45-70 Government caliber, for jacketed or lead bullets interchangeably. Barrel is 18 inch ported, tapered medium, .773 outside diameter at the muzzle, .819 at the forend cap, and .935 at the receiver. Muzzle area has 2 lateral ports each side, and 4 vertical ports each side next to the front sight. Bore is Ballard type six groove right hand 1:20 twist. Sights are screw on three piece hood protected ramp front, with dovetailed brass tipped bead. Rear sight is folding buckhorn type, drift adjustable for windage and step adjustable for elevation. Receiver is factory drilled 4 screw, for 63 size Weaver or other bases. The blued steel 14 inch half length magazine tube holds 4 rounds of .45-70 ammunition, so 4 + 1 fully loaded capacity. Lever throw is 40 degrees; .275 smooth faced trigger pulls single stage at its original 4 pounds with negligible felt creep and minimal overtravel. Hammer is .265 serrated spur, half cock at 30 degrees, and full cock at 125 degrees. Safety system is lever safety, half cock and cross receiver safety that blocks the hammer. Buttstock drop is standard 1 1/2 x 2 1/2, with a 3/4 inch right hand cant. Length of pull is 13 1/4 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 3/4 inch black rubber factory recoil pad. Swivels are cap mounted front and factory stud rear for QD Swivels. Weight empty is 7 pounds 1 ounce, with center of gravity 1 inch back of the chamber. Overall length is 36 3/8 inches. Finish is polished blued steel barrel, tube, lever, and receiver laterals with matte blue receiver verticals. American T type straight grip Walnut Buttstock and Forend hold their original semi gloss finish. Surface detractions are minimal to moderate, principally moderate streaking on the left and undersides. Metal wear is minimal inconspicuous freckling. We rate this Marlin as Very Good, perhaps even Excellent, 85 to 90 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate it has been fired fewer than 100 times, attest loading gate having edge wear only. Production on this ported barrel variant ran from 1998 until 2002 only; and of course production ceased at the New Haven Plant in 2010. This Rifle is no New Yorker. Replacement pricing on the new Ilion made, non ported rifles is $735 on marlinfirearms com. We’re offering the Ported New Haven Guide Gun in the photos, however, for only $ 519.00. 2% discount if payment is with USPS Money Order & Not Credit Card.
