Seller Description
Lefever DS 20 Gauge SxS Shotgun
TIGHT GUN, 60% CASE COLOR, GREAT WOOD!
General Specs: Lefever, Year 1914, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 15oz, Side by Side
Serial Number: 70536
The Lefever DS or "Durston Special" is the entry level double from the Lefever Gun Co. of Syracuse, New York. It has the same internal action as there more expensive guns, but lacks cocking indicators and is unadorned in the way of engraving or other beauty treatments. Usually shipped with plain-jane American walnut, this particular gun, sn70536 made in 1914, actually has some nice fiddle back in the butt stock. Weighing just 6lbs. it is an upland hunter's perfect little Lefever. There is lots of original condition on the metal, with 60% factory case color and new rust blue on the barrels. They only made a small number of these guns in 20ga., not over 500 from what I can gather from Bob Elliot's book "UNCLE DAN LEFEVER MASTER GUN MAKER". Lefever guns in smaller gauges are always hard to find and sought after by those who love the vintage American doubles. We have considered restoring the wood but will leave that for the next owner to decide. Cost for wood restoration, including recut checkering is $395, should you choose to have us do that.
To own a tight little Lefever 20ga. that still has plenty of factory condition, bright bores, and no rust or cracked wood is a special privilege, as there were so few of these guns made and even fewer remaining with condition. The gun is perfect the way it is, showing even, honest, well cared for wear from the 101 years of use. We could make it look outstanding if you like to see your guns with more finish and restored to factory specifications using proper techniques and finishes. This is a choice that most buyers today are initiating, as it restores the beauty and protective finishes the gun was meant to have. This is a great investment quality firearm with good dimensions and chokes for another 100 years in the woods and fields doing what it was intended to taking fine upland birds and for some rabbits and squirrels. Thanks for looking!
