Seller Description
Up for auction is my 1882 French Gras Rifle. It is complete with bayonet and scabbard. I have owned it since 1999 and only as a display weapon, but I have found at least one man that had one that he was firing. I do not recommend firing this rifle and anyone that undertakes to do this does so at their own risk after purchase. If you are contemplating firing this weapon, make sure a professional gunsmith checks it over first.
I always thought of this as the "Beau Jeste" rifle. It no doubt saw service in North Africa with the French Foreign Legion and likely came to this continent as a sale/supply to the Quebec/Montreal police where these rifles were known to have been used. A striking appearance and a reminder of 19th century romance and action.
