The Galesi .25 Automatic pistols were in the top twenty, if not the top 10, of their caliber during the years leading up to the 1968 Gun Control Act. GCA 68, of course, stopped their importation dead in its tracks. This specimen of the Galesi Model 503 Vest Pocket Pistol comes to us from a New England Collection. From its XX Italian Date code, it was manufactured in 1964. Manufacturer was Armi Galesi of Brescia, Italy, still in business as Rigarmi. Importer was most likely Galef of New York or Eig Cutlery of Miami. Construction is entirely blue steel, blowback action striker fired semi-automatic pistol. Barrel length is 2 1/4 inches, 6 groove right hand 1:16 rifling. Slide has serrated laterals at the rear, and does not lock open. Sights are distinctive groove atop the slide with a tiny blade front sight. Magazine is factory blue steel 7 Shot Magazine with polymer floor plate. Weight empty is 12 1/2 ounces, with center of gravity at the grip frame front strap. Overall length is 4 5/8 inches, with 3 3/8 inch height; and slide thickness of .722 inch. Grips are factory polymer, imitation Ivory, with faint but attractive age yellowing. Surface detractions on this speciment are minimal, principally a freckled area on the center left side of the slide and rear left side of the frame. We rate this Model 503 as Excellent, 90 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
