Seller Description
French Model 1867 Infantry Snider Brass Breach Conversion,engraved St. Etienne Armory-Tabatier,they were later modified to become a sporter for foraging/hunting (aka "ZULU" shotgun). These were generally French percussion muzzle-loading rifles from the 1840s, 1853s, and 1857s, converted to accept the Snider breech-loading system beginning 1867, allowing the acceptance of a cartridge (later a shot-shell usually in 10 or 12 gauge (this example unknown).
Lockplate is maker stamped, Barrel length is ~32" stamped with(Belgium) proofs; overall length is ~49-3/4". Various French inspection stamps on the breach-block.
Stock has been altered to sporting length as with many French guns in the post-Franco-Prussian War years (post-1870/1871). No provision for ramrod.
Various minor stock dings, scratches, small crack on left side opposite lock-plate (see images); nothing major other than the sporting alteration.
