Enfield No5 MK1 Jungle Carbine

For sale is an Enfield No5 Mk1 Jungle Carbine Caliber .303. The Jungle Carbine was developed near the end of WWII to provide British and colonial troops with a shorter much lighter version of the Enfield No4 MK1 rifle. This was accomplished by shorting the barrel to 18.7 inches, shorting the stock and reducing weight to 7.5 lbs. Extra steel was removed by marking lighting cuts along the barrel and receiver. This included the hollowing out the bolt handle knob. Wood was removed when possible to also reduce weight This Jungle Carbine was manufactured in Great Britain by Royal Ordnance Factory(ROF) Fazakerley Liverpool in 1945. ROF only produced 170,000 of these rifles. The survival rate for these rifles is very minimal since many saw service in climates and corners of the world that were not conducive to long service life. The carbine was also issued to some British paratrooper units during WWII in Europe. This Jungle Carbine has all stamped matching external serial numbers on the receiver, bolt, magazine and stock. This carbine has a peep for short range as well as an adjustable pop up long range sight with settings out to 800 meters. Bore is in excellent condition: bright, no pitting and sharp lands. Stock has normal handling marks with no cracks. The rubber butt pad is sound and in very serviceable condition. There is some corrosion on both sides of the metal butt plate. There is a very tiny import mark on the right side of the barrel. This carbine is coming out of an estate. It was purchased in the early 1990’s put away by the collector and never fired. The original distributors hang tag is still attached to the carbine. The original distributors shipping box is also included. This would be good for a WWII collection or a shooter.
