The Essex Sporting is a limited-edition gun made exclusively for us by Caesar Guerini. Only FIVE Essex Sportings exist, and this gun is number four in the series (the first three have been sold). They are distinguished from other Caesar Guerini sporting models by their highly detailed, Essex-pattern, English rose, scroll and bouquet engraving in virtually 100% coverage on the receiver, sideplates and fore-end iron. Except for the richly blued barrels, all metal is deeply hand polished and elegantly coin finished. Other features include 32-inch Maxis overbored barrels with ventilated side ribs, five-inch long dual-conical forcing cones, oversized locking lugs, easily replaceable trunnions instead of a problematic hinge pin, extra heavy-duty Perazzi-style ejectors with oversized extractor cams and removable disc ejector stops for easy disassembly, and six Maxis conical-parallel extended choke tubes (CYL, SK, two IC, LM and M). The gun’s low-profile, Boss-style receiver is fitted with screwless/pinless sideplates, and the upgraded Turkish Circassian root-walnut buttstock and fore-end show vivid, complex, figure. (The actual buttstock on this gun is shown in photo no. 4 of the receiver and buttstock only). Buttstock and fore-end are hand checkered at 26 L.P.I. and finished in hand-rubbed oil. Right hand buttstock with moderate right hand palm swell includes Caesar Guerini’s new Dynamic Tuning System 6-way adjustable comb—the best comb system available anywhere. The Schnabel fore-end is fitted with an Anson-type, coin-finished, push-button release. The 11mm parallel target top rib is equipped with a factory white-bead front sight and gold mid-rib bead. The Maxis barrel system (5-inch forcing cones, overbored barrels, and conical-parallel extended choke tubes) results in very modest perceived recoil with 12 ga. target loads, and the 32-inch barrels swing smoothly and deliberately and balance perfectly on the trunnions. The coin-finished trigger is easily user adjustable for length of pull, take-up and over-travel. Stock dimensions measure: Length of Pull = 14.65” (with trigger set in rearmost position), Drop at Comb = 1.5”, Drop at Heel = 2.5”, Cast at Heel = 0.2”, Cast at Toe = 0.4”, Pitch = 5 degrees.
