Seller Description
C1740-70 French flintlock belt pistol. Signed on lock "MT HUART A VERDUN". Probably shortened from a longer pistol. 5-7/8" barrel, about 11-1/4" overall. Metal parts show average wear and use with smooth yellow brass and mottled iron parts with light scattered pitting. Furnishings are of the highest quality with two interesting serpent heads incorporated into the sideplate and a centurion head on the butt. Stock is nicely border carved around the furniture, showing average wear and use overall, with some missing wood in the ramrod channel, behind the hammer, and some minor chips in the lock mortise. Hammer does not have spring tension. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
