Here is the lightest, most distinctive 12 gauge field over and under shotgun in the world, the Baby Bretton, or Baby Standard. Manufacturer was Bretton-Gaucher of St. Etienne, France. Importer was Charles Daly of New York, NY, but import stamps were not required until 1968. From its 3500 range serial number, we estimate this Baby was manufactured in the late 1950s. Type is sliding breech over and under shotgun. Construction is aluminum alloy barrels and receiver with steel guide rails, extractor assembly, levers, triggers, guard, and internal parts. Chambering is 12 gauge, 2 3/4 inch, but a person had best use nothing heavier than a 2 3/4 dram equivalent super light load. Barrels are 27 5/8 inches, nominally 28 inch, with .710 diameter Modified upper, and a .698 muzzle Full Choke lower barrel. Sights are white steel bead front and serrated receiver top rear. Internal hammers cock via the breech lever, with a 150 degree forward motion. This shotgun has no safety. Firing is via double triggers, right for top and left for lower. Forend is semi beavertail French Walnut with lateral flutes and lower checkering; buttstock is matching lightning type with cut checkering on the knob area. Buttstock drop is 1 1/2 inches by 2 3/4 inches, with a full 1 inch right hand cast. Length of pull is 14 3/8 inches from the front trigger face to the end of the 3/4 inch factory recooil pad. Overall length is 44 inches. Weight empty is 5 pounds 4 ounces, with center of gravity at the triggers. Finish is gloss black anodized with chrome plated triggers and guard; walnut finish is gloss. Surface detractions on this Bretton are minimal to moderate, principally superficial lateral scouring on the buttstock. We rate this shotgun as Very Good, perhaps even Excellent, 85 to 90 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chambers, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate this Bretton was fired fewer than 150 times. It has been in our area of Tennessippi since it was bought new 50 years ago.
