Seller Description
This is a beautiful rifle which has been converted from flintlock during its period of use. It is signed, in script, "J. W. Rinehart", on the top flat of the octagon barrel. The lockplate is signed by the famous maker, "Leman Lanctr Pa." The tiger-stripe maple stock is embellished with three, large, engraved, silver inlays. It has a beautiful, hinged, engraved, brass patch box and an engraved, brass sideplate. The real neat thing about this rifle is that it was in one hell of a fight and was used as a club to strike a tremendous blow which broke the stock completely through at the wrist. There is a period repair using the bottom of a brass pot which still has the patent markings just visible which date the pot to 1858. There is also a small repair to the toe of the buttplate from this same combat action possibly with Indians. It is approximately .38 caliber and is in "as found" condition. The fine patina is beautiful and untouched. Send EMAIL ADDRESS FOR additional photos.
