This handguard from American Built Arms is designed to work with both piston and direct impingement AR-15 gas system. It consists of upper and lower halves, each with their own heat shield and a purpose built, ergonomic hand grip area with heavy texture and an integral hand stop. It has no rail section on the top of the hand guard. Once installed, the hand guard is even with the rail on a flat top upper receiver. It is constructed of fiber reinforced polymer and accommodates Mil-Spec add-on rails so accessories can be applied to meet operational needs. This makes a great, easy to install upgrade for standard factory plastic modern sporting rifle handguards.
