Browning Superposed- GRADE II (pigeon)12ga., FUNKEN, AS NEW, TOLEX CASE Post war Browning saw much disorganization. By 1955, the year this fine Superposed, sn450xx was produced, the FN plant in Belgium was back in full swing. Having changed the designation of their catalogued guns from the familiar names like "Pigeon Grade" or "Diana Grade", they were then using numbered grades to describe the level of engraving, quality of wood and checkering, beginning with the Grade 1, the simplest offerings, to standard offerings through Grade V. The Grade II replaced the "Pigeon Grade". The engraving pattern is familiar to all who love Browning Superposed. Browning fans cherish best wood for grade, and certainly our subject Grade II has much nicer French Walnut than usually seen. Having the original case for the gun, as we have here in the Tolex case that goes with this gun, is a huge plus. The gun is signed by Felix Funken, the head engraver for at the FN plant for decades. This gun is factory original in all ways and is in near new condition. There are no flaws, and barely a mark anywhere. The case is in great shape as well. Superposed in this kind of condition, from the best era of production are near impossible to find today. A grand, investment quality Belgian made Superposed, this gun will be a joy to shoot and admire as it increases in value. The 12 gauge 26 1/2" barrels are choked SK/IC (.005/.012), mirror bores, .724 diameter bottom, .727 diameter top, minimum barrel wall thickness 45 thou bottom, 42 thou top, 99% factory blue, no dents or marks, ribs tight, ejectors strong and timed, lettering sharp. The action is wonderfully engraved, with deep chiseled oak leaves on the fences, delightful scroll, and nicely detailed pigeons in flight on the sides of the action, signed by F. Funken. The barrels are tight as new on breech face and hinge pin, with lever waaay right of center, perfect screws, crisp single selective trigger, pulls set at 4.25 lbs. bottom, 4lbs. top, mechanically excellent throughout, long tang trigger guard nicely engraved. The butt stock is nicely figured French Walnut with nicely contrasting smokey grain throughout, round knob pistol grip, 99% factory finish stock, factory checkering shows no wear, 14" LOP to factory butt plate (can add pad of choice to extend LOP, including fine pigskin leather pads), 2 3/8" Drop at heel, 1 9/16" drop at comb, neutral cast (can be bent to your specs within 14 days of purchase). There are a few marks on the left side of the stock from carry, a couple of tiny marks on right side, otherwise near new, excellent wood to metal fit throughout. The gun weighs 7lbs. 7oz. and balances 3/8" forward of the hinge pin and is delightful in hand. The case shows normal wear with all hardware intact and interior showing little wear. What a great gun for skeet or clays, or for the field over your favorite dogs. These guns have a faithful group of shooters and collectors that are always looking for an untouched, nearly new gun like this one.
