The Beretta 98FS is a full-size, double-/single-action semi-automatic pistol in the 92-series family chambered for 9x21 IMI. It uses a short-recoil, tilting-block locking system and is built on a light-alloy frame.
Factory technical data list a 125 mm (4.9 in) barrel, an overall length of 217 mm (8.5 in) and an empty weight of approximately 975 g (34.4 oz). The 98FS accepts double-stack magazines with a 15-round capacity and features fixed open sights with the rear sight integrated into the slide.
