The Beretta 96A1 is the .40 S&W member of Beretta’s 90-series A1 family. It uses a DA/SA operating system and an aluminum alloy frame with a Bruniton finished slide. The A1 configuration adds an integral MIL-SPEC 1913 (Picatinny) accessory rail and removable dovetailed sights. The 96A1 features a captive single-piece recoil spring assembly and an internal frame recoil buffer to reduce stress and extend service life.
