Helwan "Brigadier" 951 9mm U.A.R. Navy Arms
Matching Numbers
with Italian Military M60 Canvas Holster
The Helwan Egypt pistol is a licensed clone of the Beretta 951 pistol. In very good condition with almost all of the factory finish remaining, includes one magazine. This pistol was Beretta's first locked-breech design on the market. This Egyptian (UAR) military pistol has the desirable Arabic and English markings on it, probably one of captured military pistols during the 1967 6 Day War that Navy Arms Company Ridgefield,NJ brought in from Israel in the 80s.
The 'second series' model with a steel frame proved to be totally adequate in endurance. The steel-framed version was nearly 250 grams heavier than the alloy version, but the balance was improved.
The magazine release button is located at the bottom of the grip, to facilitate positive stripping of the magazine from the well. The magazine is a 8-round detachable box magazine. A hold open device will keep the slide locked open after discharging the last cartridge from the magazine. The slide can then be released by depressing the slide release lever located on the left side of the frame. The pistol uses fixed iron sights set for engaging targets at 50 m. These consist of a forward blade and rear notch. A cross-bolt safety mounted on the weapon's frame (beneath the hammer) provides safe operation with a cartridge introduced into the chamber. In the “weapon safe” position (the safety's button pushed in to the left) the slide catch is disabled. The pistol's barrel has a rifled bore with 6 right-hand grooves. and a 1 in 254 mm (1:10 in) twist rate.
Beretta was in competition with Tokarev to become the primary supplier of sidearms to the new Egyptian republic. Despite intense pressure and incentives from the Soviet bloc, the Egyptians appreciated the 9×19mm Beretta's accuracy, power and uncanny reliability in desert conditions.
The pistol very good condition.
