This is a 1931 Polish Officer's carbine that was redone by the world reknown Kurt Jaeger in Mainz Germany. The rifle is an all numbers matching weapon. The rifle was done at his shop in the Weisbaden Rod and Gun club in Mainz Germany. This is a beautiful rifle, it is used as the centerpiece for my friend's table at the HGCA show at Reliant. This is a Mauser action with the butterknife handle, the bolt, magazine ramp and adjustable peep site have all been jeweled. The stock is NOT birdseye maple, the wood is Alpine burl also known as Karelian Burl after the Finnish province of Karelia where it is often found. The high figure found in this wood is caused when the tree heals the damage done by an invasive boring beetle. Jaeger’s family sent me a letter confirming that Kurt never worked in Maple but did work in Alpine Burl on very rare custom orders.The rifle was re-barreled by Kurt Jaeger when he built it with a Bohler Spezial steel barrel. The quality of smithwork is unmatched. Kurt Jaeger built weapons for Patton, Eisenhower and lord knows how many other officers. Some of Kurt Jaeger's work is found in museums. The only other known Kurt Jaeger Rifle for sale just sold for 6,750.00 by Mertz Antiques. That stock was common wood with inlays, mine is extremely rare wood and full length. That bolt is bent handle, mine is the coveted butterknife, his is scope only, mine has a jeweled Lyman peep site. Email me for more pictures and I will send you a link to the gallery.
