LG2930 From the collection of our favorite Oklahoma Vietnam Veteran’s collection comes this very attractive, distinctive product from our neighbors in East Tennessee, a Volunteer Arms Commando Mark III semi-auto carbine that approximates the legendary 1927 Thompason Machine Gun. According to Fjiestad’s Blue Book, Volunteer Enterprises in Knoxville, TN, operated from 1969 until some time in the 1980s. This is one of their Thompson clones; not, mind you, quite like a Thompson since the bolt handle is on the left side and the construction is substantially different. This one’s serial number is 22,000 range, and it bears the 1972 patent date, so we estimate it was manufactured in 1974. Barrel is 16 1/2 inches, steel with heat dissipation rings anchored in a wood grain polymer vertical pistol grip forend. Main receiver is blued steel, and the lower receiver is texture coated stamped steel. Weight empty is a hefty 9 pounds 3 ounces. We have a total of two magazines; one 30 round magazine is original, and these good old carbines use .45 grease gun magazines, see the fitting marks on the grease gun magazine. Note that it also includes a loading tool. Buttstock is American Walnut with a 15 1/2 inch length of pull. Overall length with stock installed is 36 1/2 inches; and overall length with the buttstock removed is 27 inches, so it’s okay to leave it disassembled if that’s what trips your trigger. Surface detractions are only moderate, with moderate whitening here and there, and some occasional freckling on the receiver and on the steel trigger and safety buttons. We rate it as Very Good, 80 to 85 percent vicinity by our estimate; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. This carbine is Excellent mechanically, or at least as excellent as it ever was. These were never known for 100 percent reliability anyway. We have test fired this specimen and it ran 25 rounds of Winchester flawlessly. It did not, however, perform well if the magazine was stuffed plumb full. 20 rounds or so is best. We’re offering this Unique and Distinctive Tennessee Thompson, as we called them, for only $ 619.00. Not transferable to civilians in Aurora IL, California, Connecticut, Chicago, D.C., Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, or any jurisdiction where 1927 Thompson Semi-Autos are restricted to law enforcement.
