Description: During the 1980's and 90's, before CNC machinery made it easy to manufacture left hand bolt actions, it was nearly impossible to build a true quality custom classic American Mountain Rifle. Since I couldn't find what I had dreamed of I decided to build my own and over the years I made a number of these highly improved Remington 700 custom rifles, including short action versions. I have sold all of my completed rifles (except my personal 270 Win) and barreled actions with this one 270 Win remaining. I had always hoped to get it finished but that's not going to happen.

Take a factory Rem 700 action, true and square it, lap the lugs, slot the receiver sides to drop a little weight and provide a better bedding platform, weld and rework the rear tang so a quality stock can be properly fitted, blind inset the bolt release, install a Ken Jantz 3 position safety, a new Talley bolt handle, Ted Blackburn custom bottom metal, a premium Douglas 22 inch (.500 at the muzzle) barrel, fitted Conetrol bases and now you have the start of a true classic rifle - the kind right hand shooters had in the Winchester Model 70. Today you can buy a Left Hand Dakota and get all this but for three times the price of this piece.

Two items need to be completed on this barreled action - the new recoil lug installed and a new, steel trigger lever crafted from the included blank. The original Rem aluminum trigger lever works just fine but it's ugly and out of place on this custom action. The factory Rem LH BDL stock is for test work. Stock wrenches, bedding pillars, and extra parts also included.

This is a quality project in the white for those few who appreciate aesthetics. Put a nice piece of English Walnut on this and you have one hell of a rifle. So give me a call and I'll send you more photos and we can chat about our love of fine rifles from the 60's and 70's. I've sold most of my personal rifles over the past year to a number of very happy buyers and am happy to give references.

Finally, I realize this type of custom rifle work is not the rave it was when I was a kid reading Jack O'Connor and lusting over a Dale Goens gun and so in hopes of finding an appreciative new owner who can finish this work, my price pretty much reflects just the cost of the materials. Blackburn bottom metal back in 1983 was $240.00 and so on…. you get the picture.

best, Robert
