These carbines were produced on relocated Soviet machinery. It is also unknown how many of these carbines were produced, but with the minor production time period it is assumed the number is much lower than the other M44’s from other Eastern Bloc countries. These low production numbers make the Romanian M44 a must have "Cold War" collectable. The Romanian government denied they had ever produced M44 carbines until a small number were imported in 1998. Up until that time the existence of Romanian M44 rifles were unknown. Romanian M44 rifles were manufactured to the same standards as the Russian M44. This Romanian M44 was issued for field use. It has not gone through an arsenal rework. Stamped matching serial numbers on the barrel, magazine and butt plate. The bolt is Romanian and a mismatch which is common to field use rifles. Bore is bright with good lands. Stock is in good shape with the usual field carry marks. Stock has a minor Romanian field repair. Stock has code 02 faintly visable on one side. Rifle has the Peoples Republic of Romania crest on the barrel. Barrel is dated 1954. Rear sight and both barrel bands are Romanian marked with the traditional arrow point inside a triangle. This rifle is coming from an estate. Rifle was purchased in the late 1990's then put away box unopened by the collector. Rifle comes with the original box and importer hang tags. Importer stamped serial number on receiver. This is a good addition to a collection or as a shooter. Can be purchased on a Curio Relic ffl. Credit card 3.2%. Many additional photos on request.
