Here is a World War II U.S. Colt M1911A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol. Manufactured under US contract by Remington Rand Inc. Syracuse, NY. C Division. This pistol is from a retired Army Colonel's private collection of which I was commissioned to auction. This M1911A1 is excellent and is in unmolested original condition.
Remington Arms produced pistols modeled after the Colt 1911 after receiving a contract from the US government. This M1911A1 is one of 85,126 made in 1945. US Proof markings include ordinance inspection by Lt Col. Frank J. Atwood. Atwood would leave his inspection mark on all Remington Rand and Ithaca M1911A1 frames that were Manufactured for the US Military Contract. The Ordinance Department inspection stamp is partially visible on the right side frame below the hammer, (often partially visible on most M1911A1's). The F.J.A mark is stamped just behind the left side trigger guard. The majority of these Remington M1911A1's were issued to Army Air Force aircrew, the story is that the gun was issued to said B-17 bomber pilot who only shot it to familiarize himself with it and returned home with the gun after the war where it spent the rest of its life largely in storage. If guns could only talk!
This original M1911A1 from Remington Rand Inc. is a single-action semi-automatic pistol chambered in 45 ACP with a 7-plus-1 round capacity. A 5-inch barrel is adorned with a notch rear sight and a blade front sight. The parkerized steel frame of this M1911A1 is clad in brown plastic grips checkered to ensure military personnel had a firm grasp on these pistols. Bore is clean and bright. Functions perfectly as designed.
