We have a nice M38 Mosin Nagant carbine. This rifle is chambered in 7.62x54R. The m38 was essentially the M44 carbine made without the bayonet setup. This makes for a much lighter and handier carbine. The numbers on the bolt, magazine, and butt plate are forced matched to the receiver. We fired 30rds through the this and tried to clean out the barrel. It started out very dark and with just a couple patches got it to start shining. With some more elbow grease the bore should clean up nicely. The patches were coming out pitch black, no red/brown coloring noted indicative of rust. We were able to hit steel plates at 100 yards without trying off hand using surplus Czech silver tip. Laminated stock is solid with no major damage or cracks noted. Cleaning rod is present and original. Action moves smoothly and has a crisp trigger. As with any used military surplus firearm we recommend it be inspected by a qualified gunsmith prior to use.
