The Cooper Firearms Model 54 is a bolt-action hunting rifle. The Model 54 uses a match grade barrel that ensures the rifle fires straight. It has a three-round detachable magazine and a single-stage trigger, which gives it a short trigger pull. Its bolt has three locking lugs, which locks it tightly in the housing, so the firing pin strikes the cartridge on mark. This Custom Classic Model 54 is chambered in .257 Roberts.
The .257 Roberts is a medium powered .25 caliber cartridge known affectionately as the Bob. It has been described as the best compromise between the low recoil and flat trajectory of smaller calibers such as the .22 and 6mm, and providing strong energy without the strong recoil of larger popular hunting calibers, such as the 7mm family and the popular .30-06. Ned Roberts is usually credited with being the designer for this cartridge idea sometime in the 1920's.
